Dr Paul Janssen (1926-2003) is generally recognized as one of the most successful researchers of the 20 th century with regard to the invention and development of medicines. This brilliant and passionately devoted scientist and his team developed a range of innovative medicines in various domains, including HALDOL®, a breakthrough neuroleptic that revolutionized psychiatric hospital practice around the world, and FENTANYL®, the most potent anesthetic to have been invented in that epoch. This wonder drug substantially extended the limits of surgical possibility and gave rise to even more powerful anesthetics.

Furthermore, the depth and breadth of his insight into medicinal chemistry continues to have positive impact on the overall research climate of the company. Extensive and intensive research was key to ground-breaking products such as RISPERDAL® (anti-psychotic), SUFENTA® (pain control), IMODIUM® and MOTILIUM® (gastrointestinal disorders).
